Product of The Week: Face of Australia Mineral Therapy Illuminators ($14.95)
I toyed with buying my very first highlighter for weeks before I actually caved. I had never cared for them before but after hearing about rave reviews for Face of Australia’s Illuminator (thanks to their value, being dupes for a couple of high end highlighters, etc), I thought why the hell not (I feel like that’s going to be etched into my gravestone…). Sure enough, this product has moved from a ‘special nights only’ to an ‘everyday thing’. I’ve really found that a highlighter is a great way to give my face more definition by accentuating features that I like (ie. cheekbones) and overall giving me more of a fresh, healthy look.
Now, onto Face of Australia’s Illuminators - First of all, they are obviously huge. Most highlighters are a fraction of the size and yet triple (if not more) of the price. I only take the tiniest dab onto my finger and that is enough for both cheekbones - I swear I could use this every day for a year and it would still look untouched.
The quality is great. They’re pigmented without being excessive and are blended well into the skin. I find that it does wear off a little by the end of the day, however for the most part it stays on my skin.
I personally have this in 2 shades - Angel Mist, which is a pearly shimmer and Angel Flame, which is a peachy shade with a hint of a gold shimmer. There are another 2 shades available (Angel Glow and Angel Blush), with one being a bronze colour and the other a stronger pink. I find that the consistency between the two colours I own to be slightly different as Angel Flame is a bit thicker. Angel Mist, of course, is more subtle on the skin given it’s lack of extra colour. However, both products can still be blended easily.
Personally, I’ve recently started to combine the two - using Angel Flame on my cheekbone and carefully blending down a little to add more colour into my blush (which I apply at the end). Then I create a thin layer just above that with Angel Mist. I find that this makes my cheeks look amazing, giving them more definition and a healthy glow.
Overall, I am obviously a convert into the world of highlighters and Face of Australia have a really good quality product that are extremely affordable. I’ve heard again and again that these are dupes to Benefit, Nars, etc products so if you’re looking for something new - definitely give one (or two or three or four…) of these guys a go.
